MARIA MAGDALENA MALENTA

Untitled I (98cm X 138 cm) 2024. Mixed Media on Paper

(Private Collection in Vienna, Austria)

My artwork begins with feeling made visible—colors laid down by intuition, emotions crystallized into shifting landscapes of hue and light. These become the breathing ground upon which everything unfolds. Then begins a conversation between control and surrender. I draw only with organic lines, honoring a simple truth: nature knows no straight edges. Rivers curve, branches bend, mountains rise in flowing arcs. Everything alive moves in waves and curves. But as each line emerges, my conditioned mind whispers directions—habits trying to guide my hand. Here’s where the practice deepens: I consciously go the opposite way. When my brain insists left, I move right. When patterns try to take over, I resist. This creates genuine discomfort—a friction between learned ways and new possibilities. The body tenses, the mind protests.

Lines cross and intersect, forming sharp corners and jagged tensions. The composition looks disturbed, unsettled—like a storm mid-brewing. But then comes the tending: softening each sharp edge, rounding every corner where lines meet. Slowly, deliberately, chaos transforms into coherence. Tension releases into flow. What was difficult becomes harmonious.
This mirrors nature’s own patience—how wind and water smooth mountain stone, how time gentles all sharp things into curves. Each mark carries the unrepeatable energy of that moment’s resistance and release.

From this network of lines, forms emerge like revelations—circles, organic shapes floating on color fields that shift as you move. There is no single place to rest your eyes. The composition invites wandering, revealing layers and worlds the longer you look. Depth unfolds not through perspective but through discovery.

These works dissolve hierarchy. View them from above, below, sideways, up close—every angle offers its own truth. This openness is an invitation: bring your own consciousness, your own meanings, your own discoveries. The boundary between making and seeing dissolves. In this space, viewing becomes as creative as creating.

Ryūtai FUTOMANI SERIES (2025)

Ryūtai moji – an ancient Japanese script known as “Dragon Body Script,” believed to be over 5,000 years old and imbued with protective and purification energies. These pieces begin with sacred characters rather than color fields, but employ the same organic line methodology and resistance practice.

As the work progresses, the ancient script fragments and dissolves into the organic line network. Characters break apart, embedding themselves within the chaos, moving from conscious text into subconscious visual field. Through the same process of rounding sharp corners and softening edges, the script becomes integrated throughout the composition—visible at borders and edges, gradually disappearing toward the center. The protective energy of the ancient characters spreads across the entire surface, operating on both conscious and subconscious levels, creating a work that functions as both visual art and spiritual transmission.
